Marlon Simon and the Nagual Spirits return with the ambitious new album On Different Paths, blending a myriad of cultural and musical traditions. Available via Truth Revolution Records, On Different Paths features pianist Edward Simon, trumpeters Michael Simon and Alex Norris, saxophonist Peter Brainin, bassist Boris Kozlov and percussionist Roberto Quintero. With On Different Paths, his seventh and most ambitious album to date, Simon merges those disparate trajectories into a single new pathway that stretches far off into a hybrid future. On Different Paths is Simon’s fifth outing with his eclectic band The Nagual Spirits and one that vaults forward from the venturesome fusion of pan-Latin jazz and classical influences on its predecessor, 2007’s In Case You Missed It.

MARLON SIMON Batteur, percussionniste d’origin Vénézuélienne, aîné d’une fratrie de trois musiciens, Marlon Simon s’installe à New York en 1988, puis Philadelphia où il vit actuellement. Pendant les 8 années de son séjour New Yorkais il accompagne Paquito D’Rivera. Dave Valentin, Bobby Watson, Jerry et Andy González puis le pianiste Hilton Ruiz dont il devient le batteur attitré jusqu’à sa tragique disparition. En marge de sa carrière de sideman, il crée le sextet Nagual Spirits, pour lequel il compose et où l’en retrouve (entre autres) ses deux Frères : Michael (trompette) et Edward, pianiste renommé et entendu auprès de John Pattitucci, Terence Blanchard, Ignacio Berroa, Bobby Watson.

BLACK CHANTILLY Black Chantilly est l’une des rares formations françaises de latin jazz à proposer un répertoire original instrumental ou chanté. Fondé en 1994 par le percussionniste Marc Glomeau, le sextet réalise deux albums distribués par Tripsichord, Peaux Sensibles (97) et Segundo Soplo (2000) et s’impose tant par la qualité que la longévité de son parcours (450 concerts en 10 ans, parmi lesquels Tempo Latino à Vic-Fezensac, Nancy Jazz, Jazz sous les Pommiers, Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazz à Angers. Eric Duffau, le directeur du festival Tempo Latino, à Vic-Fezensac dans le Gers, ne tarit d'ailleurs pas d'éloges sur Black Chantilly, en soulignant « la créativité, le formidable esprit et l'exigence artistique de ce combo d'origine clermontoise ».
